This webcam was great for the price, its pretty hard finding a cam this good at this price.
This little camera works great. I wish the clip was a little bigger though and maybe had some no slip grips on it because the edge of my Acer laptop is a bit thick for it so it's a bit precarious to get it to stay without slipping off but other than that this camera is terrific. I use it to skype with a friend of mine all the time and never have a problem with it.
I had this webcam for a long time now and even though iv droped it a few times (well alot) lol. it still works like new. i love this cam.
Listening back from the Skype test call or recording in Garage Band, it sounds a bit like you're in a barrel. The control panel is easy to understand and configure. Plug into a port in your monitor if it has ports (which will likely behave as a powered hub) - or get an extension cable.Sound quality is "OK" - the microphone is tiny after all. And, you may need to go to System Preferences > Sound to select the camera microphone as the sound input device.Only trick for Mac desktop users is that the USB cord is short - designed for a laptop after all - and the camera requires a powered port, so the keyboard USB ports are not an option. Got the QuickCam Deluxe for my Mac Pro desktop - and to use with my Windows laptop as well.Nothing to install on the Mac - it just works in Photo Booth, Skype, iChat, etc. Sound quality was fine with Skype as soon as I disabled the "cancel echo" function. Around 18 to 22% when the video monitor window is active, otherwise none. I don't see any major CPU usage on a single core 2 GHz Pentium M (old) laptop.
The Logitech software mimics some of the Mac special affects - and also has a 'video muting' function that replaces your video feed with an image if you temporarily need visual privacy. (I also got a Logitech ClearChat Comfort USB headset Logitech ClearChat Comfort USB Headset (Black) on sale today - and the sound quality from it is super, so better for voice 'calls', and perfectly fine for voiceovers). The confusing reviews and driver compatibility articles about webcams for Macs put me off getting one for over a year. There is a manual focusing ring that you'll have to adjust since there is no software to do autofocus. There are features lacking on the Mac end such as face tracking (pretty nice) and resolution changing. You would not want to use this for movie voice-overs, but who cares for chatting. I wish the manufacturers would just state on their packaging if the devices are OS X compatible - you'd think they'd get more sales. On Windows XP SP3: software installed fine and works well. Image quality with the auto white balance was way off - I was happier setting the white balance manually and boosting the color saturation. With "cancel echo" enabled, the sound coming from Skype was garbled.
These webcams are excellent. The microphone pickup is crystal clear, and the video streams in a good quality. The pictures could be a little clearer, but are still decent enough.
